Lord, how good it is for us to be here -- Matthew 17

Children's Formation

Children's Formation

Amen, I say to you, unless you learn and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever receives one such as this in my name receives me.”  ~Matthew 18:3-5

On the back side of the bricks of the wall on the back side of our sanctuary are painted the names of children involved in the Children’s Formation program when our church was built. The parish did this to constantly remind us how important children are to who we are as Church.

At Transfiguration we have many Formation Opportunities for children. Recognizing that parents are the first and best educators of their children in matters of faith, our Kindergarten through Grade 5 program is meant to strengthen and build upon the faith formation that occurs within families.

We are in the early stages of preparing for the 2017-2018 program year and want to create a program that helps to meet the needs of your family

Children’s Formation Program Offerings:

Children’s Liturgy of the Word: Free, Fun Faith Formation at the 9:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Sunday Masses offered from September through May for ages 4-7. Children are able to hear and understand the scripture at their level.

Following Programs have Separate Registration that is required:

Evening Christian Formation (Classroom Model): Meets Monday or Tuesdays 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. for Grades K-5 offered from September through May. We follow a spiral curriculum so all children are learning about the same topic but at the level that is appropriate to their grade. This always for families to have discussions around the topics each week.

Family Based Christian Formation: Families educate their children at home, using a program that includes a Family Guide. In addition monthly gathered sessions on Sunday 10:15-11:15 are required to help build a community for sharing and addition content.

First Reconciliation & First Communion Preparation: Preparation usually begins in the Second Grade; however, we are happy to individualize a plan to meet the needs of an older child. First Reconciliation is scheduled in December and First Communion is scheduled in late April and early May. Preparation for each Sacrament includes parent meetings, family sessions, and at home activities. Registration for this program takes place follow a Parent Only Sacrament Meeting held yearly in September.

Vacation Bible School: Summer VBS offered in July annually, it’s a 5 day program. Each day includes a lesson/skit along with a bible story, craft, snack, songs and a game to reinforce the message. On Wednesday there is also a Family Mass with an Adult One Day VBS program.

Summer Service Immersion Retreat  Our annual week with the Sisters of St. Joseph Volunteer Corps spent in faith-sharing, living in community, and service with the poor in the city of Rochester is coming up the week of July 17-21.  There are 12 spots available, and priority will be given to upperclassmen who register by the May 16 deadline.  Register today for this life-changing experience!  Click HERE for the form.
