Welcome to Children's Christian Formation

The first formal catechesis of youngsters in our parish begins with the Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLW). CLW is offered during the school year—from September to June on Saturday at 4:30 Mass and on Sunday mornings during the 9:30 and 11:30 Masses. Children's Liturgy of the Word is a great way for our children to experience the Gospel in their own language, symbols, and unique way. Children's Liturgy of the Word is maintained by a joyful co-op of wonderful people: families whose children experience this wonderful ministry in turn share the responsibility of teaching and staffing Children's Liturgy of the Word.

Upon entering our school of religion, the children experience opportunities to learn and to share in community. Our curriculum features not only religious education but also faith experiences that parallels the development of the child. Children's Christian Formation and faith development are woven into the fabric of life so that the purpose of catechesis (to make a person’s faith become living, conscious, and active, through the light of instruction) may be met. Registrations and information about Children’s Christian Formation Programs are mailed to all parish families in July of each year.

With this integrated approach, youngsters experience opportunities for faith-growth not only in the classroom, but also at home and in the community.

Throughout all of these stages of learning, our parish formation programs are only as successful as we make them. When parents recognize their role as primary educators of their children; when catechists realize not only the importance of teachings content but also the powerful personal witness they give; when parish staff and numerous volunteers understand their roles; then we can continue as a parish to move forward into the future of building the kingdom.

We are a faith community of over 1,600 families and have over 1,000 participants in our faith formation programs at any given time. Our programs are staffed by hundreds of our own parish membership. Transfiguration’s Christian Formation Programs have a dynamic of openness and gift to each member of our parish.

Children's Christian Formation Class Reminders

• For safety reasons, please pick up and drop off your children INSIDE (downstairs of Education building).

• If Pittsford schools are closed, we are closed. For closures beyond school closings, watch RNews and WHAM (channel 13).

• Classes begin promptly at 4:30 and end promptly at 5:30 (7:00 and 8:00 respectively on Thursday evenings). Out of respect for our volunteer catechists, please be on time.

• If your child must miss a number of classes in a row, please let the office know.

• Help is always needed. Call the office to volunteer.
