Sacrament of Reconciliation (Penance)

Penance is celebrated weekly on Saturdays at 3:30pm or by appointment.

Our First Reconciliation candidates are prepared in a family, parish and catechetical setting. A child preparing to receive the sacrament learns to understand that we are called to:

  • Use our gifts to make choices and follow Jesus.

  • Change our hearts when necessary.

  • Forgive one another.

  • Accept forgiveness and to share our gifts.

It is the goal of the program to help your child appreciate more fully that God gives us pardon and peace; love and healing through the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Preparation for the Sacrament of Penance begins in October and culminates in December.  The majority of children prepare for Penance in the Fourth Grade.

Please note that sacramental preparation, however, is readiness based.  All families are encouraged to assess their own readiness for the celebration of each sacrament and preparation is not based on children’s grade-level or enrollment in Faith Formation Classes.
