The annual Back-to-School picnic
is held to benefit Sanctuary House,
a homeless shelter for women and children and the women and
children from Women’s Place, another similar shelter. Both shelters are operated by
Catholic Family Center.
Giving of your time is
directly related to God’s call to us to walk with the
poor and vulnerable. Catholic Social Teachings,
“Preferential Option for the Poor” and vulnerable is
scripturally based in the many examples of Jesus
teachings and actions, and in God’s choice of a poor
young single woman, Mary, to be the bearer of the Christ
child. The term “preferential option for the poor” has
its roots in the experience of the Latin American Church
and challenges us to see and respond to the needs of the
hungry, homeless, and powerless. As followers of Christ
we need to ask ourselves, how do we walk in solidarity
with the poor and what do we do to stand against
inhumane poverty?
Please email or call Patty
Lovallo at plovallo@rochester.rr.com or 383-0446 if you
can volunteer your time or if you can provide munchies,
a salad, or dessert for the picnic. Thanks!
