Christmas Baskets

The Christmas Basket Program provides food and small gifts to families in need in Rochester through the House of Mercy (a homeless shelter for men and family outreach center), Jordan Health Center, St. Vincent de Paul, Pittsford, Fairport and other local communities. This program links our parish community with others living in poverty and assists us to see the struggles of the poor, oppressed and marginalized locally. Parishioners have generously responded by sponsoring families in providing both food and small gifts for family members.

If you wish to become a  sponsor or would like to offer your time and talent in assisting with the program, please contact Margie Benza at the parish office at 248-2427 or by e-mail at

Thank you all for your generous response to our 2015 Christmas Basket Program !
Your generosity has reached over 202 families of 1018 men, women and children. You have extended the hands of Christ to others not only by providing a meal and gifts but a sense of dignity and celebration to gather as families on Christmas which is so meaningful to all of us!

Thank you to so many who have sponsored families directly, made generous donations, baked cookies, made phone calls, shopped for grocery and clothing items, donated food, offered gifts through our Sharing Tree, and assisted after Mass with sponsorship. So many were kept busy with pre-assembly, assembly and delivery day by organizing the food shelves, sorting toiletries, clothing, toys and food, wrapping gifts, assembling food and gift baskets and making deliveries. We could have never accomplished this task without your generous offer of time, talent and treasure.

Our thanks is also extended to our Christian Formation classes, the Bird House in Pittsford, Brooks Hill Elementary and PTA in Fairport, Pittsford Cub Scout Pack #315, Heads Up Salon in Fairport and the Work of our Hands Knitting Group. All of these wonderful groups supported our families through donations of blankets, toys, hats, mittens, gloves, beautiful handmade items and delicious cookies for our baskets.

A special thanks to program coordinators Lorey Beck, Mary Jo Coniglio, Roger Corea, Theresa Eckert, Carol Finucane, Michelle Jordan, Connie Tripp and Nancy Wahl. Their continued commitment to the program is immeasurable.

This has been a challenging year for so many. We have experienced the gift of your care and compassion by the tears of appreciation on the faces who have received your kindness. The notes of sponsors and volunteers who have received the graces of participation have been uplifting.

Please keep these families in prayer as you travel through the New Year. Peaceful blessings to you and your families as we begin 2016 and celebrate once again, “Lord, how good it is for us to be here.”
