Christmas Baskets

The Christmas Basket Program provides Christmas Baskets to families in need in Rochester through the House of Mercy (a homeless shelter for men and family outreach center), Pittsford, Fairport and other local communities.  This program links our parish community with others living in poverty and assists us to see the struggles of the poor, oppressed and marginalized locally.  Parishioners have generously responded by sponsoring families in providing both food and small gifts for family members.

In 2007 through the kindness of parishioners and friends of the parish, we were able to support 190 families, totaling over 1150 adults and children. Our thanks to so many who sponsored families directly, made generous donations, baked cookies, made phone calls, printed labels, donated food, offered gifts through the Sharing Tree, assisted after Mass with sponsorship, assisted on pre-assembly, assembly or delivery day by organizing the food shelves, sorting toiletries, clothing toys and food, wrapping gifts, assembling baskets or making deliveries. We could have never accomplished this task without your generous offer of time, talent and treasure.

Many sponsors wish to repeat sponsorship if their family has returned to the program.  Our parishioners will be contacting sponsor families in mid-November.  Sponsorship will take place generally over the first two weekends in December in the Gathering Area.

If you wish to become a new sponsor or would like to offer your time and talent in assisting with the program, please contact Margie Benza at the parish office at 248-2427 or by e-mail at margie4@frontiernet.net
