Evironmental Awareness and Activities

Below is a listing of activities, organizations and web sites that provide a greater awareness and understanding or our environment and our relationship to it.

Environmentally Sound Activities

 

  • Bike ride (along the canal from the Basin to the Village, have ice cream & ride back?)  Rochester Bike club: www.rochesterbicyclingclub.org

  • Go for a picnic in someone's backyard or a park

  • Go to the Public Market, 280 North Union Street Sat am
  • Have a star party, on campout or in someone's backyard or at the top of Woodcliff’s hill
  • Hike in any park www.monroecounty.gov,  bring a plastic bag and collect litter as service
  • Hike to Daffodil meadow from Thornell side (shorter hike) or from Park Road side

  • Pick up litter, donate the can & bottle receipts to an environmental charity.
  • Plant bulbs for an elderly person's home or another spot. Plant flowers too if you or owner can water them.

  • Plant tree or shrub seedlings. http://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/7127.html. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation's (DEC) annual sale of tree and shrub seedlings is underway and will continue through May. DEC's Saratoga Nursery produces more than 50 species of trees and shrubs, many native to New York, for planting on public and private land. The objective of the program is to provide low-cost planting material to encourage landowners to enhance New York's environment for future generations.
