Thanksgiving Turkey Drive | |
|
Yearly, Transfiguration parishioners participate in the donation of whole frozen and roasted turkeys in order to provide Thanksgiving Dinner for families and individuals in need. Parishioners are asked to buy a turkey, prepare it, and then deliver it to our Parish Life Center kitchen on the Monday evening before Thanksgiving. The usual Thanksgiving fixings are also needed. Volunteers then deliver the food to various charitable organizations in Rochester prior to Thanksgiving. The third major theme of Catholic Social Teaching states in part, “The Church upholds both personal and social rights. The right to life is fundamental and includes a right to food, clothing, shelter, rest, medical care and essential social services.” Being mindful of this major social teaching of the Catholic Church, our annual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive provides food to those in our community who are hungry and often marginalized. The Turkey collection serves the communities of St. Martin’s place, Bethany House, House of Mercy, Dimitri House, Eastern Service Workers, Mount Carmel Community, Catholic Family Center Homeless Shelters, and St. Andrew’s Food Pantry. contacts/Coordinators: Ralph Cyr: 586-0492
