Lord, how good it is for us to be here -- Matthew 17

Children's Formation

Faith Formation is a lifelong process which is centered around the Eucharist.  At Baptism, each of us began our journey of faith, a journey that lasts a lifetime. We are called to ongoing formation, prayer and growth in our relationship with Jesus Christ.

On the back side of the bricks of the wall on the back side of our sanctuary are painted the names of children involved in the Children’s Formation program when our church was built. The parish did this to constantly remind us how important children are to who we are as Church.

At Transfiguration we have many Formation Opportunities for children. Recognizing that parents are the first and best educators of their children in matters of faith, our Kindergarten through Grade 5 program is meant to strengthen and build upon the faith formation that occurs within families.

Bridges of Faith Family Faith Formation Program:

Our Offering for grades K-5 focuses on building up the family as the primary teacher of faith. This program includes weekly at home activities, small family groups as well as larger church occasions to pray, talk and share faith experiences with one another. Families have the convenience of choosing between Sunday afternoon or Monday Evening sessions each month.
Materials Fee: $80 per K through 5th grade participant; $180 max per family.   Click HERE for the online registration form.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (Ages 3 thru 6):

“If we want to help the child draw nearer to God, we should with patience and courage seek to go always closer to the vital nucleus of things. This requires study and prayer. The child will be our teacher if we know how to observe.” ~Sofia Cavalletti

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is an approach to the religious formation of children. It is rooted in the Sacred Scripture, Catholic doctrine, the liturgy of the Church, prayer, and the educational principles of Maria Montessori. Children gather weekly in an “atrium,” a room prepared for them, which contains simple yet beautiful materials they use to help them absorb the most essential proclamations of the Christian faith.  Program Fee: $80 per child participant; $180 max per family.   Start date is Tuesday, October 27, 2020. Click HERE for the online registration form on our Event Registration page.  If you do not find the form (meaning classes have been formed for the season), please contact the office and ask to speak to someone from Formation.

Sacramental Preparation  - Sacramental preparation is separate from parish formation programs and Catholic schools.  It is required by the Diocese.  We now register and take payment for Sacramental programs on line, via our OnLine Giving and Event Registration service.   If you have any questions or concerns, please call the Transfiguration Christian Formation office at 585-248-2467.

First Reconciliation & First Communion Preparation:  Preparation usually begins in the Second Grade; however, we are happy to individualize a plan to meet the needs of an older child. First Reconciliation is scheduled in December and First Communion is typically celebrated in late April and early May.  Preparation for each Sacrament includes parent meetings, family sessions, and at home activities. Click HERE to go to On-Line Giving and Event Registration, and select the First Communion and First Reconciliation registration event. Vicky Wejko, Associate Director of Formation will contact you with program detail and dates.  If the event does not appear on the Event Registration page (meaning classes have been formed for the season), please contact the office and ask to speak to someone from Formation.

Confirmation: Confirmation preparation is a two-year program specified by our Diocese.  Candidates entering 8th grade or higher in the Fall of 2020 should plan on attending.  Registration is offered each year in late summer.  Please contact the Parish Office, and ask to speak with Anne Gallagher or Vicky Wejko if you have any questions.
