“Lord, how good it is for us to be here!”
I am writing this week with the encouragement of our Communication Committee who are the midst of the challenging project of writing a long-term plan for our Parish. I am personally inviting each of one of you to take part in the 2nd phase of our parish assessment project designed to assist in the development of a 3-5 year longterm plan for “our” parish. Speaking of “our” parish I was very pleased that of those who responded to the web based assessment 83% of respondents indicated they believe the parish is theirs, that is the parishioners; our consultant company tells us that is approximately 15% higher than the average parish in Northeast United States.
As a follow up to the web based assessment, which 380 parishioners completed and over 200 wrote comments, we are now entering the second phase of the long-term planning process. We will be holding a series of 1 to 1½ hour “Input Sessions” where you will be asked your thoughts on 4 issues critical to maintaining and growing parishioner participation in our faith community.
- What is our Parish’s greatest strength?
- What would you like to see changed in our Parish?
- What is the one thing we could do to attract more people to our Parish?
- What is the most important factor to consider in looking towards the future for our Parish?
Input Sessions will be held on the following days and times.
- Saturday, Jan 20th @ 3:15 PM (PLC Double Room)
- Sunday, Jan 21st @ 10:15 AM (PLC Double Room)
- Sunday, Jan 28th @ 10:15 AM (PLC Double Room)
- Tuesday, Jan 30th @ 7:00 PM (PLC Double Room)
- Wednesday, Jan 31st @ 7:00PM (Church Gathering Area)
In addition to these sessions there will be Input Sessions for the Men’s Fellowship, Women’s Fellowship, both youth groups and the 9:00 AM choir.
We ask that if possible you RSVP by going to our website (www.transfiguration.org) or by calling the Parish Office at 248-2427. Babysitting will be available, please be so kind to indicate you need babysitting when you register for a Session. Please remember, however, that all the meetings are open attendance and the most important factor is that we have as many people participate as possible. We encourage you to attend with other family members and invite other parishioner friends to participate. Babysitting will be available in the church, so please indicate if your children will need babysitting when you register for a session.
Along with the recently completed parish online assessment, input from these meetings will be critical in the development of our 3 -5 year long-term plan, which will be presented later this year. I reach out to all our parishioners; young and old, single, married or widowed, with families or empty nesters to help us in this important project. For if it is to be truly “good for us to be here” both today and in the future, we need your thoughtful participation in one of these Parish Input Sessions
Why is a long-term plan so important, there are many reasons, but here are 3: First, it is healthy for a parish to have developed idea of who they are and where we wish to be headed as we collaborate more regularly with other parishes. Second, a well-developed plan makes it easier to attract staff members. Finally, a road map to the future will assist the Pastoral Council and Finance Council in addressing our pastoral and financial needs.
Please continue to pray for peace in our world!
In peace and courage,
