Dear Friends,

Thanksgiving week is one of the most peaceful weeks of the year for me!  I find Thanksgiving to be kind of a mini retreat; not that I need another one having just been on my annual retreat in October at the Mount Irenaeus  in Friendship.  This week the pace is a little slower allowing me time to connect with significant others in my life.  It also gives me, as I hope you, time to reflect on the blessings showered upon us in the past year.  I realize that sometimes it is difficult to see the blessings through all the trials and pain we sometimes have to confront, but the blessings are there.  This past year has been filled with blessings for me, which include:

  • The continued good health for the rest of my family, including some new grand nieces and nephews.
  • Being able to attend Fr. Marcus’ OSB, my good friend, installation as the Abbot of St. Bernard Abbey in Alabama; such a joy!
  • The beauty of friendships, some have been part of my life for over 50 years.
  • Another year (40+) of ministry in our Church, highlighted by being able to celebrate my 40th anniversary with all of you, friends and family.
  • Ministry with the people of Transfiguration and what a joyful experience it has been for me and hopefully for you.
  • Time to recreate and soak in the beauty of the world God has given us to enjoy.
  •  An ever-deepening awareness of God’s love in my life.

I am taking advantage of Fr. Ed Palumbos’ willingness to preside at Thanksgiving Day Mass and the willingness of Margie Benza and Sue Wallace to make sure all is ready for Mass on this special day.  This allows me to travel to Michigan to spend Thanksgiving with some very good friends of 47+ years.   I praise and thank God for all these blessings. Happy Thanksgiving!

Did you do it yet?  We are only one-third of the way toward our Catholic Ministry Appeal goal of $203,413.  Thank you for making your pledge!  Have you returned your Catholic Ministry Appeal pledge card?  Your pledge is important to the life of our local church and to our parish.  Please make your gift or pledge this week so we can conclude the Appeal before the Christmas season.

You never know what a kid may say and with an eye on Thanksgiving dinner:  TEACHER: Now, Simon, tell me frankly, do you say prayers before eating? SIMON: No sir, I don't have to, my Mom is a good cook.

Let us continue to pray for and take action to bring about peace in our world!

In peace and courage,
