    "Migration: Faith and Immigration Justice"


     


    This September, we invite you to participate in our JustFaith small group program, "Migration: Faith and Immigration Justice." This unique offering will facilitate thoughtful, faith-centered dialogue around the complex and often divisive topic of immigration. As we engage with this critical issue, we will explore how our Christian faith informs our understanding and response to immigration and justice.


     


    Throughout this program, participants will dive into questions such as:


    Why don’t people “get in line” to become citizens the legal way?


    Why do people migrate?


    What does the Bible say about immigration?


    What’s going on with DACA?


    By the end of this course, participants will be better equipped to advocate for just, compassionate, and effective immigration policies.


    Course Details


    Duration: Eight 2-hour sessions and one immersion experience.


    Start Date: Thursday, September 12, 2024


    End Date: Thursday, October 31, 2024


    Schedule: Sessions will be held on consecutive Thursdays from 7:00 – 9:00 PM in the Church of the Transfiguration Parish Life Center double room.


    Dates: Sept. 12, 19, 26, Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24, 31.


    Registration Details


    Fee: $35 (This includes comprehensive session materials, facilitation scripts, guidance, training resources, and direct access to program staff for support.)


    Books: Participants will need to purchase two books, The Line Becomes a River: Dispatches from the Border by Francisco Cantu and Welcoming the Stranger: Justice, Compassion & Truth in the Immigration Debate by Matthew Soerens and Jenny Yang. Books can be ordered from JustFaith Ministries, Amazon, or other preferred sources.

    This wonderful group of people gathers twice a month - on the second and fourth Thursday - from 1 pm to 3 pm in the Upper Level of the Transfiguration Education Center to spend some time knitting and crocheting together.


    If you don't know how to knit or crochet, come and learn!  We have all the supplies!


    Hats and other items knitted are donated to charities and church initiatives throughout the year.   This is a joint group with St. Louis Church.
