My husband Clyde and I, along with our 8-month old son Benjamin, joined the parish in October 1985. We were immediately drawn to the wonderful, welcoming parishioners and our pastor, who at the time was Fr. Jerry Appelby.
I’ll never forget one particular mass in the barn. We were all bundled up in our winter coats, hats and mittens. Even Fr. Jerry! The snow was falling gently through part of the roof onto the altar, as the candles flickered and we all were breathing in straw and animal scents! It was the most beautiful sight I had ever seen. I will carry the blessings from that mass with me forever.
We were a small, tight knit parish in the beginning. As the campus was built up, the parishioners were the ones who joined in on so much of the hands-on work. Like the painting of the rooms! Lots of camaraderie, connections, and team work! A real ‘can do’ spirit! We truly were part of building a foundation!
We welcomed two more children, Kristina and Joseph, into our family and got more and more involved at church as the years went by. Both Clyde and I traveled to Kentucky to serve the poor, served on Parish Council and Finance Council, taught Religious Education classes and were involved in many, many fun years of Vacation Bible School! We’ve been involved in many ministries and Adult learning opportunities over the past 34 years and now enjoy being Eucharist ministers and mass Coordinators. The liturgies are just beautiful and I couldn’t agree more with the words etched above our gathering doors, “Lord, how good it is for us to be here.”
I feel very blessed and honored to be part of this wonderful staff.
