Lord, how good it is for us to be here -- Matthew 17

Dear Friends,

One of the things I really enjoy is being the recipient of a handwritten note or card that arrives by snail mail!  It’s even more special even before opening the note/card if I recognize the handwriting. Even if I don’t recognize the handwriting it is nice to know someone has been thinking about me.

ministry is beginning. It is called “Lorraine’s Caring Connection.”  It has been inspired and created by one of our parishioners, Michael Larche, who on his own has written cards to people he may not even know, but lets them know he is thinking about them and praying for them.

One person Michael wrote to was Lorraine Fontaine. Lorraine, unknown to him, but the parish had been praying weekly for her, was in a long-term care facility in Worcester, Massachusetts.  Lorraine kept his note with all her special things. When Lorraine died her daughter Diane found the card among her mother’s treasures.  Diane has been inspired to begin this ministry because as she said, “I am wondering how many of us love to receive a handwritten note from someone letting us know they are praying for us and wishing us a good day.”

As I said above, I know I do!

On September 11, after the Thursday morning mass at 9 AM at Saint Catherine’s, an initial meeting will be held. Everyone will be invited to pray for individuals wanting prayers and writing them a note. Everyone is welcome to bring notecards that can be added to those already in place.  A table is set with some cards and the description of this ministry in Saint Catherine’s outside the chapel.  If you have any questions, please contact Diane Kozakiewicz at 585-781-0736.

September 1st is our Labor Day Holiday!

Labor Day’s purpose is to celebrate and recognize the social and economic contributions of American workers to the nation’s strength, prosperity, and well-being.  Organizing from the labor movement’s fight for better working conditions in the late 19th century, the holiday became a federal holiday in 1894. It also traditionally marks the unofficial “end of summer.”

May you enjoy this holiday.

Meanwhile, I’m going to hold onto summer until the next season “officially” begins!

Blessings to all,

Father Rob
