Lord, how good it is for us to be here -- Matthew 17

Dear Friends,

There is always much to be grateful for in our lives and world.  Recently, Americans and people beyond the United States remembered President Jimmy Carter.  President Carter and his wife, Rosalyn, were people of deep faith and passionate stewards of the Gospel throughout their lives. They worked endlessly to make sure every human being was respected, given dignity and had their human rights considered.

This week, we remember another great American who also worked endlessly to see that human justice was there for every human being. Dr. Martin Luther King gave his life because of his faith and beliefs that all people are to be loved and given their due dignity.  As we remember Dr. King this January 20th, may we offer a prayer for all he had done to promote civil rights. May we also pray that we will do the best with our God given gifts to join all those who continue to live the legacy and work of this man.

We have been blessed between our two parishes with dedicated and prayerful individuals on our Staffs. At certain moments changes occur due to new opportunities and retirements.

As with the numbers diminishing for priesthood and religious life vocations, so too the numbers have fallen to the call of the Permanent Diaconate.  There is a strong request among our diocesan faith communities for help and parishes are looking for Deacons to assist with their pastoral needs.  Saint Catherine of Siena and the Church of the Transfiguration have been blessed over the years with outstanding Deacons.  Each man has been generous in sharing their personal gifts and faith with us.

The time has come though, that another parish will reap the blessings and gifts of Deacon Kevin Carges. He has been asked to assist Saint Mary’s in Canandaigua with Father Mike Costik beginning next month.

I am very saddened to see Deacon Kevin, who I consider a dear friend, leave us but I’m praying for his blessings as makes this transition and meets our sisters and brothers in Canandaigua.  Let us thank the good Lord for the time we have had with one another. Let us continue to pray for Kevin, ourselves and all people that we will be faithful stewards sharing the Good News as long as we live.

My friend, I only pray for the best in your life and in your ministry.  Thank you for everything you’ve given to me and the parishes we have shared together.  YOU, are the best!!!  Love you!

Blessings to all this week,

Father Rob
