Lord, how good it is for us to be here -- Matthew 17

Dear Friends,

What a great and fabulous time was experienced in this year’s Vacation Bible School!  With the theme “CATHLETICS! Training to be Champions for Christ”, under the direction of Vicky Wejko and her dedicated and skilled volunteers, our young people from both our parishes had a memorable experience!

I want to thank everyone who helped in so many ways to make this “CATHLETICS!” blessed for all who were part of this past week.  It has been a gift to be part of VBS and in particular to celebrate Mass on Wednesday with our campers.  My prayers continue for everyone and a continuing joyful summer!

This weekend, Rob Kozarits and Ben Cutter are speaking at all our masses about the upcoming Men’s Retreat to Booneville, Kentucky.  Both of these men have a strong history and prayerful experience of this valued week away helping our sisters and brothers who are not as blessed as ourselves.    Perhaps, if you haven’t signed up to join Rob and Ben as of yet, you might prayerfully consider going this year!

There is a long story that in my mother’s side of the family, if you live through the month of July, you will live the rest of the year.  My dad died on July 19th, 2008 and my mother on July 23rd, 2000.  My mother’s mother died a very young woman. I never had the opportunity of knowing her. Mom would lovingly speak of her as “Mother.”

Her mother had cancer. While she was dying she wrote Mom a note for her birthday (May 4th). Mom had the note framed and always on her dresser. It is in my bedroom today.   Mom always hoped to live at least as long as her Mother. She did, but Mom, who had Alzheimer’s, died at the age of 69.

I hope to make it through the rest of July! And with my birthday coming up next month, I will turn the age Mom was when she died.  Certainly, at this point of my life’s journey I am confident I will. I may forget things from time to time, recalling some things (always thanking Jesus) later. I thank the Lord each morning I wake up and believe I am as good and healthy as I am.

So, Dad and Mom, you’re thought of, loved and missed.

Thank you for my gift of life.

Blessings to all,

Father Rob
