Dear Friends,

Fall is in the air, even though, as I write this column it is still technically summer! Keep wearing your shorts!!

Next weekend, we will have a visiting missionary speak at all our masses both at Saint Catherine of Siena and the Church of the Transfiguration. This is an annual visit to represent the Propagation of the Faith for the Diocese of Rochester.

As you and I know, throughout the world today there is joy and tragedy, success and failure, war and peace, dedication and unrest. Within this framework, the MISSION CHURCH is living Christ’s command to TEACH…to COMFORT…to LOVE. The statutes of the Pontifical Mission Societies state that every diocese and in all parishes, the parish community is to share in the very life of the Mission Church by welcoming missionaries to tell their story and experiences through the Missionary Cooperation Plan.

This mission-aid program continues to unite us with the universal Church. The presence of the missionary makes it possible for us to see and hear the real-life MISSION of the church in foreign lands. Both our parishes are vital in our local and global vision in caring for and addressing the needs of all our sisters and brothers. This vision will continue to be before us as we welcome next weekend Fr. Francis Muriithi.

Donations will be gladly accepted. If you write a check, PLEASE write it out to either Saint Catherine of Siena or Church of the Transfiguration with “Mission” written in the Memo section. After all the donations are received the parishes will write a check to the Society for the Propagation of the Faith.

Thank you, as ever, for all your generosity and stewardship!

As I often reflect upon, be everything you are meant to be and you’ll set the world on fire (Catherine of Siena) and Lord, it is good for us to be here (Matthew 17).

These words nurture my prayer and soul! May they
bless you as well.
With faith,
Father Rob
